Be Kind Redux
Just got back from Be Kind Rewind, and I have to flip my recommendation to a "No." The movie didn't have enough laughs, and the cornball ending was a bit too much for me.

The trailer sets up the movie well. The tapes are erased, so they have to make remakes of the movies on their own. These remakes become popular, and bring the community together. They need to make money from these movies to save the video store from demolition.

Then the evil MPAA steps in, and calls for the movies to be destroyed. After making a slight poke at the ridiculous fines, the movie sides with the MPAA and the tapes are destroyed.

I guess it's no surprise a studio film sides with the MPAA, but still, it was disappointing.

If you watch the credits roll, you'll see that the creators of Be Kind Rewind had to secure rights from each of the films they reenacted in the movie. It's ridiculous.

Anyway, let's see how I did with my predictions.:

Jack and Mos will appear to be beaten by the authorities, but fan support will rescue them.
Nailed it.

And how did I do on my recommendation :

This one will have some weak moments, but overall will be funny and thoughtful enough to make it worth recommending. Be kind, please don't disappoint me.
It did have more weak moments than I expected, and didn't have enough laughs or thoughtfulness to overcome it. I was disappointed.

Now, that's two weeks in a row I've had to flip my recommendations (though I probably should've said "No" on Jumper (but I was so desperate)), which doesn't give me a very good average so far this year. I hope to do better in a couple weeks on 10,000 BC.

On a site scheduling note, I might be taking some time off next week. I'm in dire need of some forced time off, so if nothing new shows up on Monday morning then you'll know why.

That's all for today. Stay geeky!
