Watchmen Follow Up

I'm entering my 24th hour of wakefulness as I write this, so please forgive any errors. I just got back from seeing Watchmen on IMAX. The theater I was in was very packed. Mostly college kids.

I'm still processing the movie. By all accounts it's a faithful recreation of the graphic novel. With the comic still fresh in my mind, I recognized lots of dialog, and shots taken directly from it. It was cool to see the characters come to life.

I can understand cutting parts of the story to fit for time. I mean it's over 2.5 hours already. Not all of it could be included, nor should it be. However, one change from the original kinda bothers me. It just doesn't sit right. I don't want to give it away to spoil it for anyone. I'll let you be the judge.

Rorschach was great. Jackie Earle Haley does a great job as the masked hero. The other actors did well also.

I think I'll have to sleep on it to pass final judgment. Parts were great. Parts were slow. My foggy mind can't piece it all together right now. Where's Dr. Manhattan when you need him?

I do have this to report from the theater. As the credits rolled there was a smattering of applause. The guy behind me booed. He turned and said, "I'm disappointed in all of you." I believe he was the same guy who was voting for the movie on IMDB.com before the show started. He's probably an ultra-purist disappointed by any deviation.

Now I'm off to rest up for the Jonathan Coulton concert in 17 hours.

That's all I've got for now. Stay geeky!
