NRA:  Flag Burning Bad, Flag Shooting OK

By Brian Briggs

Washington DC - The National Rifle Association is up in arms over the recent flag burning amendment.  The amendment reads "Congress shall have the power to prohibit the physical desecration of the Flag of the United States."

Burning, burning, burning.NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre said, "We at the NRA are proud to be Americans, and are in support of an amendment that would stop burning of the flag.  However, this amendment says 'desecration', shooting the flag could be considered 'desecration', and we won't stand for any law that infringes on our second amendment rights."

Charlton Heston added, "Any American that burns a flag should be prosecuted, but I don't think it should be a crime to blast holes in a flag with an Uzi."

Heston also opined "What kind of world would it be if criminals could wear flags around themselves and murder at will, because the police would fear prosecution for shooting a flag.  Is that the kind of world we want to live in?  A world full of flag wearing mass murderers."

Supporter of the amendment Frank Smalley said, "The NRA has it all wrong.   When we say desecration we mean burning, peeing on, or throwing dung at a flag.   Not shooting.  Shooting is good.  In fact we had little flag shooting targets made up.  We couldn't list everything that is prohibited by the amendment.   That would make it too long."

Smalley had no comment on flag underwear, flg bras, flag swimsuits or flags displayed at Garth Brooks concerts.
