I didn't see #2, and I doubt I'll see #3, but I feel comfortable saying this will be an overblown special effects masterpiece, er, catastrophe.

I have watched the first two, and while I enjoyed them in the long run, they seemed a bit slow at times. I really hope this doesn't happen in the third movie (which I will watch).

While the movies themselves are not a real masterpiece, Johnny Depp is always fun to watch in his quirky roles. The CGI will definitely play an important role in this movie, but then again, it's what we all expect.

I seriously doubt they will pull a fourth one out of their asses, but you never know.

If the third one does reasonably well (which I am sure it will), they will pull a fourth one out. And the stench will easily give away where it came from.

The problem with doing a fourth will be getting all the actors together again for such a big project. Most of the actors involved don't have a hard time finding work, and the prospects of doing yet another sequel might not be too appealing to them.

It's probably an important enough franchise to Disney that they wouldn't try to do it with out Johnny Depp, but you never know.

So they make an origin story prequel about how Jack Sparrow came to be a pirate. They cast all unknown actors and throw in a completely CG character with a funny sounding accent as the comic relief. Of course this is only the first in the trilogy detailing the life of Young Jack Sparrow.
Spoiler Alert: The ghost monkey that Jack hates was his own pet and best friend at one time. Also Depp and Knightly's characters are brother and sister separated at birth to hide them from their evil father Captain Barbarossa.

Sounds like you've got the screenplay already written.

I just used the Star Wars formula.

I saw the movie, and it's even better than the trailer! It was excellent.

2 remains crappy.

Excellent. Now I'm looking forward to seeing it even more.

I watched it yesterday, and it wasn't that bad.

Some weak moments and weak characters (despite being given seemingly great importance), but overall the movie was decent. Overblown special effects, yes. Catastrophe, no.

It was pretty much what I was expecting.

And I'll have to take back what I said about there not being a fourth one. Now it seems all too likely.

Yeah, they definitely set the stage for a fourth, I'll be more surprised if they DON'T make #4 now.

I didn't think it was a total catastrophe, though several friends of mine definitely thought it was, but I didn't think it was particularly good, either. Mediocre at best, really.
