Cloverfield (http://imdb.com/title/tt1060277/) is tomorrow's trailer to review. I'm looking forward to this one much more than Dungeon Siege. I'm not convinced it's going to be good, but I am convinced it will be better. It has to be. I don't know how much more I could take...
Anybody else want to go see this? |

| I'm starting to suspect you have a masochistic streak about you since you seem to be deliberately choosing to review movies which you expect to suck ass. |

I'm intrigued by it, but knowing it's by the guy who made Lost it'll probably be awesome for the first ten minutes, and then alternately completely baffling and then stupid.
So, I don't think I'll be heading to the cinemas to see it. |

Yeah, I thought JJ Abrams was directing it, but he's only producing it. I'm not sure how much of an effect producers have on a movie. I know there's a big difference when Steven Spielberg directs and when he produces, and JJ Abrams isn't even close to Spielberg.
I do have some hopes for this one not sucking, so it's not masochism at work. Now if there's a Pokemon movie coming out this year and I do the trailer review then you can question my sanity. |

| It premiered last night over here, but I still can't find any references to what the monster actually is. That's probably the only thing that I want to know. |

I'll be sure to let you know, of course, I'll put in the proper spoiler warnings. |

I'm starting to suspect Brian has way too much free time & to much cash on hand.
Or - will Brian write off every ticket-stub as a "business expense?"

I'm usually worn out creatively by Friday afternoon. Historically, I'm not very productive then, so going out and seeing these movies is actually more productive than I usually am.

Yes, every ticket it a legitimate business expense. I'm seeing a friday matinee so it's only $6.50. Writing something off doesn't mean that's it's free though. I just get to pay about 25 cents less in taxes at the end of the year. To be truthful, I could do without the expenses right now, but hopefully it will result in a more entertaining site.
I've posted my thoughts on the movie in the BBlog here:
http://www.bbspot.com/Log/?module=Log&function=browse&id=1250
Turing says it didn't spoil the movie for him, but I did put a spoiler warning on it. If you just want the short version, then I'm sticking with my "No" recommendation for the film, but it was closer than I thought it would be. |

Makes sense. I don't begrudge you the time. I just haven't seen a movie in a theater since... ummmm... "Pirates III?"

Sweet deal. I like to think of my time spent on BBspot as a way of maintaining sanity while at work. Is there a way I could calculate my time here as a medical expense?
We appreciate every bit of entertainment you proffer... Even if it is only a fleeting glimpse of a inopportune Webcam grab.

Bob, at NPR, gave pretty much the same review....
More interesting was the "teaser" before Bob's report:
"Does 'Cloverfield' live up to its trailer?"
Yeah - but they didn't review the trailer first... |

Apparently, there was a sequel teaser after the end of the credits. Some static on a walkie-talkie saying the creature is still alive or something. I was too hungry to stick around for the credit roll, but it's a good lesson for me to learn. If I'm going to review movies then I have to stay for the whole thing.
I read a couple positive reviews of the movie. They had the same opinions I did of the movie, but forgave the bad acting and believabilty of the gimmick. Like I said, it was a close call for me, for them the balance tipped in the positive direction, for me it was slightly negative. |

Thanks again Brian for saving me another £15 in wages!
I was intrigued to see this at 1st but thought if JJ Abrams had any input we'd be left with more questions than answers like Lost.
I'll wait until the DVD release and borrow it I think! |

Yeah, that's a good strategy. I'm sure there will be plenty of people who love the movie, but I have to give my honest opinion even if it's out of the geek mainstream. |
