The Intel inside is the Intel Pentium (P6000) chip that debuted in the second quarter of 2010. This is a 64-bit, dual-core processor running at 1.86GHz. This processor has 3MB of L3 cache and was built using a 32nm process. This laptop comes with 3GB of DDR3 memory and can be expanded to a maximum of 8GB.

The screen is a 17.3″ diagonal HD CineCrystal LED widescreen display with a resolution of 1600×900. That’s a true 16:9 aspect ratio and native support for 720p content.  Driving the screen is the integrated Intel HD graphics chip with 128MB of dedicated video memory and more with shared system memory.  Not the best computer for playing games.

For storage you get a 250GB Serial ATA (SATA) hard drive rotating at 5400RPM. The hard drive isn’t quite as big as the screen, but should be adequate. The optical drive is an 8X DVD-Super Multi Double-Layer Drive.  The memory card reader supports Secure Digital™ (SD), MultiMediaCard (MMC), Memory Stick®(MS), Memory Stick PRO™ (MS PRO), xD-Picture Card™ (x) formats.

For networking you get a 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet adapter for all your wired web surfing.  For wireless you get a WiFi Certified 802.11 b/g/n adapter. This system does have a built-in HD webcam and microphone for all your video chatting needs.

External ports include 3 high-speed USB 2.0 ports, 1 VGA port for connecting an external monitor, 1 HDMI port for connecting to your HDTV, 1 headphone, 1 microphone and a slot for a security lock.  The multi-gesture Touchpad supporting twofinger scroll, pinch, rotate and flip. The full keyboard also has a dedicated numeric keypad.

The laptop measures 16.3″ (W) x 10.8″ (D) x 1.07/1.35″ (H) and weighs 7.26 pounds. Not exactly a lightweight. The 6-cell Lithium ion battery pack can provide up to 3.6 hours of unplugged power.

This notebook comes installed with Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit edition.  Other software includes Acer Backup Manager, Acer Crystal Eye, Acer ePower Management, Acer Recovery Management, Google Toolbar, eSobi, McAfee Internet Security Suite Trial, Microsoft Works with Office Home and Student 2007 Trial, Norton Online Backup and NTI MediMaker.

You can find the Acer Aspire (Model: AS7741Z-5731) notebook PC for around $500.
