The processor is the Intel Pentium Processor model T4300 which is a dual core processor with two processing threads.  It operates at 2.1 GHz and has 1 MB of L2 cache.  The front side bus runs at 800 MHz and this is of course a 64-bit processor.  The system comes with 4 GB of DDR3 RAM running at 800MHz and that’s the maximum this laptop can handle.

The display is a 17.3-inch LED-backlit TrueLife widescreen display with 1366 x 768-pixel resolution. The screen uses TrueLife high-gloss/anti-reflective technology, which features a sharp contrast finish that’s well suited to immersive 3D games and watching videos. The display is driven by the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD, which uses shared video memory (up to 1750 MB allocated from the system memory). The card supports Microsoft DirectX 10 for gaming though with shared memory you probably won’t get great performance on the latest ones.

For storage you get a 320GB hard drive, and an 8x multi-format DVD drive that supports reading/writing of CD-R/RW, DVD±R, DVD±RW, DVD±R DL, and DVD-RAM. The media reader is a 7-in-1 memory card reader compatible with Secure Digital, Secure Digital High Capacity, Memory Stick, Memory Stick PRO, and more.

In the networking department you can use the 802.11 b/g wireless adapter when you’re away from a cable, or use the RJ-45 connector and its 10/100 connectivity for your cable connection. Other ports include  3 USB 2.0 ports for connecting a wide range of peripherals–from digital cameras to MP3 players, 1 VGA connector, 1 ExpressCard/34 slot, 1 headphone jack, and 1 microphone jack.

In the bezel around the display is an integrated 1.3 megapixel webcam with facial recognition software automatically secures your computer when you’re away. This software adapts to your changing looks so you can expect faster login times. Also, there’s no need to remember numerous passwords for password-protected Web sites.

The system comes installed with Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium Edition.  Other software includes Microsoft Office Home & Student 2007 and McAfee SecurityCenter for anti-virus protection (with 30 days of updates).

The laptop measures 16.4 x 10.9 x 1.6 inches and weighs 6.8 pounds.

You can find the Dell Inspiron 1750 17.3-Inch Obsidian Black laptop for around $800.
