The Intel inside powering this laptop is the Intel Pentium (P6100).  This is a dual-core processor built on Intel’s Westmere microarchitecture.  It has 3MB of L3 cache and each one runs at 2GHz.  This CPU is built using a 32nm process and only uses 35W.  Of course, it’s a 64-bit processor. This laptop comes with 4GB of DDR3 memory and can be expandable to 8GB.

The display is a 14″ WLED high-definition display with a resolution of 1366×768. With its 16:9 aspect ratio and native support for 720p content, it makes a pretty good DVD-watching machine.  The screen is driven by Mobil Intel HD Graphics with 64MB-1696MB dynamically allocated shared graphics memory.  This is not the laptop you want, if you want to play today’s games at their highest resolutions.

For storage you get a 500GB SerialATA (SATA) hard drive at a slow 5400RPM.  It’s a big drive with plenty of space for all the crap you want to put on it, and trust me, you’ve got a lot.  The optical drive is one of those multi-format DVD/CD drives that reads and writes all the formats you can imaging.  It’s got a pretty nice media card reader that claims to be 7-in-1 which supports Secure Digital, Secure Digital High Capacity, MultiMediaCard, MultiMediaCard Plus, xD-Picture Card, Memory Stick and Memory Stick PRO formats.

For networking, you have the standard 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet LAN adapter which lets you access through the standard RJ-45 port.   Anyway, for wireless you can use the built-in Dell 1501N wireless networking (802.11b/g/n) adapter.

External ports include 3 high-speed USB 2.0 ports, 1 half mini-card slot, 1 HDMI port, 1 headphone and 1 microphone.  You also get a built-in webcam with microphone so you can talk to grandma via video chat.

This laptop comes with the de facto laptop standard of Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit Edition.  Other software includes Dell crapware and Microsoft Office Starter 2010, which you’ve got to buy if you want to use.

This laptop measures 13.5″x10″x1.2″ and weighs 5 pounds.

You can find the Dell Inspiron I14R-1440MRB laptop for around $550.
