This laptop has the Intel Core i5-460M processor inside.  This  is a dual-core, 64-bit processor with 4 processing threads.  The cores operating at 2.53GHz normally, but can be boosted up to 2.8GHz with TurboBoost technology.  It has 3MB of L3 cache and uses 35W.  The laptop comes with 6GB of DDR3 SDRAM and can be expanded to a maximum of 8GB. That’s plenty of memory for all of your multitasking needs.

The display is a 15.6″ WLED high-definition display with a resolution of 1366×768. With its 16:9 aspect ratio and native support for 720p content, it makes a pretty good DVD-watching machine.  The screen is driven by Mobil Intel HD Graphics with 64MB-1696MB dynamically allocated shared graphics memory.  This is not the laptop you want, if you want to play today’s games at their highest resolutions.

For storage you get a 500GB SerialATA (SATA) hard drive at a slow 5400RPM.  It’s a big drive with plenty of space for all the crap you want to put on it, and trust me, you’ve got a lot.  The optical drive is one of those multi-format DVD/CD drives that reads and writes all the formats you can imaging.  It’s got a pretty nice media card reader that claims to be 7-in-1 which supports Secure Digital, Secure Digital High Capacity, MultiMediaCard, MultiMediaCard Plus, xD-Picture Card, Memory Stick and Memory Stick PRO formats.

Listen to these tri-state networking options.  First, you have the disappointing 10/100 Ethernet LAN adapter which you access through the standard RJ-45 port.  Couldn’t something like this have Gigabit?  Anyway, for wireless you can use the built-in Intel® 6250 wireless networking (802.11b/g/n) adapter.  I did mention 3, maybe I should’ve said 4 as in 4G WiMAX broadband technology.  This laptop comes with an adapter for that, but you better make your your wireless carrier offers that option. I guess I should’ve said 4 because this laptop does come with Bluetooth support.

External ports include 3 high-speed USB 2.0 ports, 1 half mini-card slot, 1 HDMI port, 1 headphone and 1 microphone.  You also get a built-in webcam with microphone so you can talk to grandma via video chat.

This laptop comes with the de facto laptop standard of Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit Edition.  Other software includes Dell crapware and Microsoft Office Starter 2010, which you’ve got to buy if you want to use.

This laptop measures 14.8″x10.3″x1.25″ and weighs 5.9 pounds.

You can find the Dell Inspiron I15R-1835MRB laptop for around $650.
