This laptop is powered by the AMD V-Series (model v140) processor.  This is a single-core, 64-bit processor running at 2.3GHz.  It has 512KB of L2 cache and was built using a 45nm process.  This chip has  25W profile.   This system comes with 2GB of DDR3 system memory.  This is on the low end, which matches the processor.

The display is a 15.6″ WXGA LCD high-definition widescreen display with a resolution of 1366×768.  That resolution gives you a 16:9 aspect ratio and native support for 720p.  The screen is driven by the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250 graphics card.  This has 256MB of dedicated memory and can support up to 1917MB of dynamically allocated shared graphics memory.  Shared memory slows your system down during graphically intensive processes like games.

For storage you get a smallish 250GB Serial ATA (SATA) hard drive rotating at 5400RPM.  This is a small drive, but what you’d expect in a cheap laptop.   The optical drive supports multiformat DVD±RW/CD-RW drive with double-layer support.  If you need a little extra storage, or want to load pictures from your digital camera you can use the 2-in-1 digital media reader that supports Secure Digital (SD) and MultiMediaCard (MMC) formats.  Make sure your device uses these cards before grabbing this laptop.

For networking you get a 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet LAN adapter accessible through the RJ-45 port. Nice to see Gigabit support on a low-end laptop like this.  For wireless you get a built-in 802.11 b/g/n wireless LAN adapter, so you can connect to just about any Wi-Fi network.

External ports include 3 high-speed USB 2.0 ports, 1 VGA port for connecting an external monitor, 1 HDMI port with HDCP support for connecting to your HDTV, 1 headphone jack and 1 microphone-in jack.  This laptop does not come with a built-in webcam, so any video chatting will have to be with an external webcam through the USB port.

This laptop comes installed with Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit Edition.  Other software includes eMachines® Power Management, eMachines® Recovery Management, Microsoft® Office Starter 2010, Microsoft® Silverlight™, Microsoft® Windows Live™ Essentials – Wave (Mail, Photo Gallery, Live™ Messenger, Writer), Norton® Online Backup (30-day trial), Norton Internet Security™ 2010 (60-day trial), Adobe® Flash® Player 10, Adobe® Reader® 9.1, NTI Media Maker™, Skype™ and WildTangent® Demo Games.

This laptop measures 14.96″x9.9″x.98″/1.18″ and weighs 6.37 pounds which is awful heavy for such a cheap machine.  The 4-cell (2800mAh) lithium-ion battery provides the power when you’re not plugged in.

You can find the eMachines (eME442-V133) laptop for around $280.
