Gateway Netbook lt2023u

The Gateway LT2023U comes with the Intel Atom N270 processor, which is a single core chip running at 1.6 GHz and using 512 KB of L2 cache.   The Atom N270 has a front side bus which runs at 533 MHz.

The LCD display is 10.1″ and features LED backlight for lower power consumption.  Its resolution is Wide Screen Video Graphics Adapter (WSVGA – 1024×600). An Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 950 (945GSE Express Chipset) powers the screen which uses response-boosting dynamic video memory (up to 224 MB). It has a 256-bit graphics core running at 400MHz.

The system comes with 1GB of DDR2 memory running at 533MHz giving you the power to run your apps without a lot of memory swapping.  This netbook comes with a 160 GB Serial ATA hard drive rotating at 5400 RPM.  A bit small, but this is a netbook, so it should be enough for what this netbook does.

Connectivity is always important on a netbook where you plan to spend most of your time online with it.  For wired connections, the netbook comes with a standard RJ45 10/100 Ethernet port.  For untethered activity over wireless the system comes with an integrated 802.11 b/g wireless adapter.  The system carries the Wi-Fi certified designation, so you can be sure it will operate on wireless connections from any vendor.

Windows 7 Starter Edition comes installed on the netbook, so you’ll have no trouble finding applications that are compatible with this system.  Windows 7 upgrades security and speed over previous versions of Windows, and that’s what you want in an operating system. Other software includes the Gateway Recovery Management software for quick backup of your factory settings, in case the netbook ever gets corrupted.  Sixty-day trials of Microsoft Office and Norton Security are also included on the system.

Now for a couple of multis. First the Multi-in-1 card reader for easy transfer of your digital media from your camera, camcorder or other devices equipped with a memory card.  It supports Memory Stick®, Memory Stick Pro™, MultiMediaCard, Secure Digital™, and xD-Picture Card™ cards. Also included is the multi-gesture touchpad for the flicking, pinching and twirling gestures you’re used to for navigation around the Internet and on the system itself.

The integrated webcam and microphone make video chatting fun on this netbook. External ports on this computer include a headphone and microphone connector, 3 high-speed USB 2.0 ports and a VGA out port for connecting to an external video display.

This system does NOT include an optical (CD/DVD) drive, but is compatible with external CD/DVD drives.  The dimensions are 1.03″ (H) x 10.17″ (W) x 7.24″ (D) and it weighs 2.62 lbs. A 3-cell Lithium ion batter pack (2200 mAh) is included.

The LT2023U can be found for around $300. This model is an older model, and you’d be better off spending a little more and getting the Gateway LT2104u netbook.
