The HP Pavilion dv4-1427nr entertainment notebook comes with a dual-core AMD Turion X2 processor and a 14.1″ LCD display.HP Pavilion dv4 1427nr Entertainment Notebook Review

The system comes with the dual-core AMD Turion X2 processor, which is a 64-bit processor running at 2.2 GHz.  The processor has 1 MB of L2 cache and is built on a 65 nm process. This CPU performs comparable to an Inter Core 2 Duo processor.  The system comes with 4 GB of DDR2 RAM installed and can be upgraded to 8 GB.

The display is a 14.1″ diagonal WXGA High-Definition HP BrightView widescreen display (1280×800).  The display is driven by the ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphics chip ( RS780M).  This chip uses shared memory (up to 1918MB), so the performance is hampered a bit.  It should do fine with movies, but even with Microsoft DirectX 10 compatibility, it won’t do so hot with the latest games.

For storage this laptop has a 320 GB Serial ATA (SATA) hard drive rotating at 5400 RPM.  Decent size, but not top of the line speed-wise.  The optical drive is a LightScribe SuperMulti 8X DVD±R/RW with Double Layer Support.

This laptop has 3 options for connecting to the Internet.  The fastest option is the built-in 10/100 Ethernet LAN port (RJ-45). Next comes with 802.11 b/g wireless port for mobile connections.  And last is the integrated 56kb modem.  Let’s just hope you don’t have to use that.

Video chat is made easy with the HP Webcam with integrated digital microphone. Sounds come from the Altec Lansing speakers with SRS Premium Sound.

The 5-in-1 integrated Digital Media Reader for Secure Digital cards, MultiMedia cards, Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro, or xD Picture cards makes it easy to transfer to pictures from your digital camera.  Other ports include 3 Universal Serial Bus (USB) 2.0, 3rd port shared with eSATA, 2 Headphone out, 1 microphone-in, 1 HDMI for connecting to your HDTV, 1 VGA (15-pin),  eSATA + USB 2.0,  1 notebook expansion port 3, and 1 Consumer IR (Remote Receiver). For more expansion it comes with a ExpressCard/54 Slot (also supports ExpressCard/34).

The system comes with Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit with SP1.  It’s a bit disappointing to see laptops still available with Vista when Windows 7 is out already. Other software installed includesSymantec Norton Internet Security 2009 (including 60 days complimentary live update), HP Help & Support, HP Recovery Manager, HP Total Care Advisor, ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection, HP MediaSmart, Muvee Reveal, Cyberlink DVD Suite, Adobe Acrobat Reader, HP Games Powered by Wild Tangent, Microsoft Works, Microsoft Office 2007 Home and Student Edition: 60 Day Trial Version, HP Total Care Set Up and Microsoft Internet Explorer (replace as quickly as you can with Firefox or Chrome).

The system measures 13.15 in (L) x 9.45 in (D) x 1.34 in (min H) / 1.57 in (max H) and weighs 5.1 lbs.
