HP Pavilion dv5-2135dx Laptop with an AMD Turion II Processor

This laptop features the AMD Turion II processor (model P540).  This is a 64-bit, dual-core processor running at 2.4GHz. This processor has 2MB of L2 cache and uses 25W.  It includes VISION Premium Technology by AMD. This laptop comes installed with 4GB DDR3 memory and can be expanded to 8GB.

The display is a 14.5″ diagonal High-Definition HP BrightView LED screen with a resolution of 1366×768.  It’s driven by the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250 graphics card. This has 128MB of dedicated memory and can support up to 2045MB of dynamically allocated shared graphics memory.  Shared memory slows your system down during graphically intensive processes like games.

For storage you get a 500GB Serial ATA hard drive rotating at 5400RPM.  A half a terabyte is enough space for your digital photos, music apps and more.  The optical drive is a LightScribe SuperMulti 8X DVD±R/RW with double layer support.  The 5-in-1 integrated Digital Media Reader supports Secure Digital cards, MultiMedia cards, Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro, or xD Picture cards, which should cover most digital cameras.

For networking you can use the 802.11 b/g/n Wireless LAN adapter for all your untethered web needs.  On the wired side you can hook up a standard cable to the RJ-45 port and access the integrated 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet LAN adapter.  With these networking options you can use the built-in TrueVision webcam and digital microphone to Skype grandma (once you’ve set it up for her (unless she’s one of those rare techie grandmas)).

Rock out with the Dolby Advanced Audio and Altec Lansing speakers. Be mesmerized by the HP Imprint finish in midnight blue for that hipster geek look.  Point away with the HP Clickpad with on/off button.

External ports on this Pavilion include 3 high-speed USB 2.0 ports (3rd port a shared eSATA/USB port), 1 HDMI port for connecting to your HD TV, 1 VGA port for connecting an external monitor, 1 headphone-out and 1 microphone in.  You also get a Kensington MicroSaver lock slot for that added security if you want.

This laptop comes installed with Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit Edition, which has become the de facto standard on laptops these days.  Other software includes Symantec Norton Internet Security 2011 60-day Trial, HP Power Manager, HP Recovery Manager, Sun Java, HP Advisor, HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection (3D DriveGuard), HP MediaSmart: HP Music Store by Rhapsody; Snapfish; Facebook; Flickr; Hulu; Netflix; Roxio CinemaNow; MTV; Nickelodeon, Microsoft Office 2010 preloaded (purchase of a Product Key required to activate a full Office 2010 suite) and the HP Wireless Assistant.

The laptop measures 13.89″x9.25″x1.22″/1.41″ and weighs 5.19 pounds.  That makes it a pretty portable machine.  The 6-cell (55WHr) Lithium ion battery pack can provide up to 5 hours of unplugged power, which is very nice.  When you need to plug in you can use the included 65W AC adapter.

You can find the HP Pavilion dv5-2135dx laptop for around $580.
