HP Pavilion dv6-2190us NoteBook with Intel Core i7

The HP Pavilion dv6-2190us laptop with a Intel Core i7 processor and 15.6″ LCD display is a powerful laptop at a good price.  HP dubs this an “Entertainment Notebook” and it certainly fits the bill.HP Pavilion dv6 2190us NoteBook with Intel Core i7

Inside is the Intel Core i7 (720QM (Clarksfield)) running at 1.6 GHz.  This is a quad-core processor with 8 processing threads.  It normally runs at 1.6GHz, but can turbo up to 2.8 GHz when needed.  It’s a 64-bit CPU with 6 MB of Intel SmartCache (L3) and built using a 45 nm process.

The display is a 15.6″ LED high-definition widescreen display with BrightView technology and 1366 x 768 resolution.  BrightView technology provides improved contrast and clarity, brighter colors and more lifelike images.  Would be nice to have higher resolution on an “entertainment notebook,” but you’d pay more for it.  The screen is driven by the Nvidia GeForce GT 230M with up to 2815MB total graphics memory with 1024MB dedicated.  Dedicated video memory means fewer system slowdowns during graphic intensive tasks like movies or gaming.  The GeForce GT 230M chip runs at a speed of 1.1 GHz. and is compatible with Microsoft DirectX 10.1.

The 500 GB Serial ATA (SATA) hard drive rotates at 7200 RPM, for faster performance than older 5400 RPM drives. The optical drive is a LightScribe SuperMulti 8X DVD±R/RW with Double Layer Support. This laptop comes with 4 GB of DDR3 memory and can be expanded to 8 GB.

A 5-in-1 integrated Digital Media Reader reads Secure Digital cards, MultiMedia cards, Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro, or xD, making it easy to pop in the memory card from your digital camera and transfer photos.

For network connectivity this laptop comes with an RJ-45 connector for wired 10/100/1000 Ethernet capability. Wireless networking is provided by the integrated 802.11 b/g/n wifi adapter.

External ports on this machine are fairly standard with 4 Universal Serial Bus (USB) 2.0, 4th port shared with eSATA, 2 headphone out, 1 microphone-in, 1 HDMI, 1 VGA (15-pin),  eSATA + USB 2.0, 1 notebook expansion port 3, 1 IEEE 1394 Firewire (4-pin) and 1 Consumer IR port. This notebook also comes with an ExpressCard/54 Slot (also supports ExpressCard/34).
