This notebook computer features the AMD Turion II ultra dual-core mobile processor (M600) that’s more than just a mouthful to say.  It’s a 64-bit dual core processor with 2 MB of L2 cache, running at 2.4 GHz, that’s built on a 45 nm process die.  It’s a powerful mobile processor that’s good at multitasking. The system comes with 4GB of DDR2 RAM and can be expanded up to 8GB.

The 17.3″ LED high-definition plus widescreen display with BrightView technology and 1600 x 900 resolution is large enough for the whole family to watch a movie on.  This laptop does have AMD’s Vision Technology, which means this laptop is built for music, movies and sound.

You’ll be able to watch the highest resolution movies with the Blu-ray Disc-enabled DVD±RW/CD-RW drive. It has full read support for next-generation Blu-ray Disc (BD-ROM); double-layer support using compatible media. It also supports LightScribe direct-disc labels usng compatible media. Built-in Altec Lansing with SRS Premium Sound means you won’t have to plug in the headphones to get good sound.

Driving that display is the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4530 graphics chip. The 4530 chip is built on a 55 nm fab with a core clock running at 500 MHz. It can share up to 2302MB of system memory, but also has 512MB of dedicated video memory.  It does support DirectX 10.1 and OpenGL 3.2 for gaming compatibility.

The hard drive is a 500 GB Serial ATA (SATA) drive rotating at 7200 RPM for quick access times.  That’s plenty of space for all your music, movies, games and apps.  To get your pictures on this notebook, you can use the built-in 5-in-1 digital media reader which supports Secure Digital, MultiMediaCard, Memory Stick, Memory Stick PRO and xD-Picture Card formats.

For networking you can use the built-in 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet LAN adapter with a RJ-45 connector.  The wireless option is the built-in wireless LAN (802.11a/b/g/n) adapter.  This laptop also comes with a 56KB modem if you want to rock it old school.  This laptop does not have Bluetooth support.

External ports include 4 Universal Serial Bus (USB) 2.0, 4th port shared with eSATA2 , Headphone out, 1 microphone-in, HDMI, 1 VGA (15-pin), eSATA + USB 2.01,  1 notebook expansion port 3, 1 IEEE 1394irewire (4-pin) and 1 Consumer IR (Remote Receiver).  Sounds comes through the Altec Lansing with SRS Premium Sound and Sub-Woofer.

It comes installed with Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium Edition (64-bit) for the operating system.  Other software installed includes Symantec Norton Internet Security 2009 (including 60 days complimentary live update), HP Help & Support, HP PC Recovery, HP Advisor, HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection, HP MediaSmart, Cyberlink DVD Suite, Adobe Acrobat Reader, HP Games Powered by Wild Tangent, Microsoft Works, Microsoft Office 2007 Home and Student Edition: 60 Day Trial Version, HP Set Up and Microsoft Internet Explorer.

The system is heavy at 7.7 lbs, but with a 17.3″ display that’s what you’d expect.  The laptop measures 16.2″ (W) x 10.9″ (D) x 1.37″ (min H)/1.70″ (max H). The system comes with an 8-cell Lithium ion battery pack and a 90W AC adapter.
