This laptop is powered by the Intel Core i5-480M CPU. This is a high-end dual-core processor that runs at 2.66GHz and with Turbo Mode can clock up to 2.9GHz.  This CPU comes with Hypterthreading that lets the processor handle 4 processing threads at once. This chip comes with 3MB of Level 3 cache and uses 35W of power.  It’s built using a 32nm process.  This system comes with 6GB of DDR3 memory and can be expanded to a maximum of 8GB.

The screen is a 17.3” diagonal High Definition+ HP BrightView LED display with a resolution of 1600×900.  Driving the display is a ATI Mobility Radeon HD 6550 graphics card.  This card comes with 1GB of dedicate video memory and up to 3738MB of total video memory. This card supports DirectX 11, Shader Model 5.0, OpenGL 4.1, OpenCL 1.1 and Directcompute 11.  The core speed on this card is 600 MHz and the memory runs at 900 MHz.

For storage you get a giant 750GB Serial ATA hard drive rotating at 5400 RPM.  That’s tons of space for all your music, photos, apps and more.  The drive is protected by HP ProtectSmart drive protection. The optical drive is a LightScribe Blu-ray ROM with SuperMulti DVD±R/RW Double Layer Support. Those Blu-ray movies will look good on the 16:9 aspect ratio screen.  The 5-in-1 integrated Digital Media Reader supports Secure Digital cards, MultiMedia cards, Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro, or xD Picture cards.

For networking you can use the integrated 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet LAN for your wired web connections.   For wireless you can use the built-in 802.11b/g/n WLAN adapter when you want to walk around Starbucks.  This laptop also supports Bluetooth and WiDi.

Other features include Beats Audio, an HP Triple Bass Reflex Subwoofer, an HP Clickpad with On/Off button, an HP TrueVision Webcam with integrated digital microphone and a SimplePass Identity Protection with integrated fingerprint reader for added security.

External ports include 4 high-speed USB 2.0 ports (4th port shared with eSATA), 1 HDMI port for connecting to an HDTV, 1 VGA port, 1 headphone out and 1 Microphone in.  You also get a Kensington MicroSaver lock slot.

The hard drive comes installed with Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit Edition. Other software includes Symantec Norton Internet Security 2011 60-day Trial, Corel PaintShop Photo Pro X3; Corel VideoStudio Pro X3; Snapfish Picture Mover; Beats Audio; CyberLink DVD Suite Premium, CyberLink DVD Suite Deluxe, Microsoft Office 2010 preloaded (purchase of a Product Key required to activate a full Office 2010 suite), Windows Live Mail; Windows Live Messenger; Windows Live Photo Gallery; Windows Live Writer; Windows Live Movie Maker; Windows Live Mesh and Skype.

This Pavilion measures 16.35″ x 10.8″ x 1.25″/1.46″ and weighs 6.86 pounds.  It comes with a 9-Cell (93 WHr) Lithium Ion battery and a 120W AC adapter.
