Lenovo G550 (29583RU) Laptop

This Lenovo laptop  comes with an Intel dual-core Pentium processor model T4400.  The processor has 1 MB of L2 cache and runs at 2.2 GHz. It’s a 64-bit processor with an 800 MHz front-side bus.  This is not the most-recently released i3 processor, and does not have as good of performance as those processors, but still should perform well. The system comes installed with 4 GB of DDR3 memory with maximum capability of 8 GB.

The display is a 15.6″ WXGA (1366×768) LED backlight LCD display. The LED backlight uses less power than older CCFL displays. The screen is driven by the Mobile Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500M chip.  The chip has no dedicated graphics memory, but takes dynamically an amount from the main memory (128 MB to 1759 MB). The chip is compatible with Microsoft DirectX 10.

The laptop comes with a 250 GB Serial ATA (SATA) hard drive rotating at 5400 RPM.  A good size drive for a value laptop, probably not enough to make this a true desktop replacement though, unless your music and movie collection is small.  The optical drive is a DVD±R/RW capable of writing dual-layer DVDs.

The 0.3 megapixel webcam and integrated microphone make video chatting possible. Also face recognition software ships on the computer, so you can use that for security.

Networking comes from the integrated 10/100 (RJ-45) wired Ethernet port, or the 802.11 b/g wireless adapter for connecting to your home wireless network or wifi hotspots on the go. Other ports are rather sparse on this machine, it comes with 3 high-speed USB 2.0 ports, 1 VGA port for connecting an external monitor, 1 headphone jack and 1 microphone input. This system does not come with a built-in card reader that you find on most laptops in this price range, nor does it come with an HDMI port.

The laptop comes installed with Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit edition.  Other software includes Lenovo OneKey Recovery, Adobe Reader, Windows Live Toolbar, Lenovo Energy Management Software, Veriface Facial Recognition, Easy Capture, Norton Internet Security (90 day trial), Cyberlink Power2go DVD+/-RW.

The 6-cell Lithium ion battery pack can power the notebook for up to 3.8 hours.  Dimensions are 15″ x 9.6″ x 1″ – 1.4″ and it weighs in at 5.95 pounds.

You can find this laptop for around $450, but you can probably find better spec’ed laptops in that price range.  Also be aware that there are other Lenovo G550 laptops, so the part number is important.
