The Toshiba Satellite (L555D-S7005) laptop has a dual-core AMD Turion II processor, Microsoft Windows Home Premium and a 17.3″ LCD display.
The notebook is powered by the AMD Turion II dual-core mobile processor (M520). This is a 64-bit processor operating at 2.3 GHz. The M520 is an entry-level dual-core processor with 1 MB L2 cache and manufactured using 45 nm technology. The system comes with 4 GB of 800 MHz DDR2 RAM installed. This configuration does allow for expansion to 8 GB of RAM.
The display is a 17.3-inch high-definition, LED-backlit TruBrite display (1600 x 900). TruBrite technology makes the display appear brighter because of its anti-glare capabilities. With it’s 16:9 aspect ratio and large size, this is a good display for watching movies on. The screen is driven by the ATI® Radeon™ HD 4200 graphics engine with up to 1918 MB of dynamically allocated shared graphics memory. Shared memory means the system could slow down during graphically intensive applications (like games).
The system includes a 320 GB Serial ATA (SATA) hard drive (5400 RPM). This is a good size, but not the best speed you can get in a laptop. Should be fast enough for most applications. The optical drive is a 8x SuperMulti DVD drive with double layer support and Labelflash printing.
This laptop has a triple play of Internet support. Most of the time you’ll be using the built-in 802.11b/g/n WiFi adapter for wireless connections. If you like being tied down, then you can use the integrated 10/100 Ethernet port (RJ-45) for your wired connection. If you time travel with your laptop back to 1996 then you can use the 56k modem included on the laptop.
A 1.3 megapixel webcam with Face Recognition capabilities comes with the package and increases security on the laptop. You can also use it for video chatting with the microphone.
Read memory cards from your digital camera using the 5-in-1 memory card reader which is compatible with Secure Digital, Secure Digital High Capacity, Memory Stick, Memory Stick PRO, and Multi Media Cards. Other ports include a VGA port for connecting an external monitor, 3 USB 2.0 ports, 1 shared USB/eSATA port, a headphone jack and a microphone input port.
The system comes installed with Genuine Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit) for the OS. Other software includes TOSHIBA PC Health Monitor, TOSHIBA Power-saving eco utility™, Microsoft® Works Version 9.0, TOSHIBA ConfigFree®, TOSHIBA Disc Creator, Microsoft® Silverlight™ , Norton Internet Security™ 2010 (30-day trial), TOSHIBA Face Recognition, WildTangent® Orb™ Games Console, Hard disc (HDD) recovery, TOSHIBA DVD Player, Microsoft® Office Home and Student 2007 Edition (60-day trial), Ulead Label@Once, TOSHIBA ReelTime™, TOSHIBA Bulletin Board™, TOSHIBA Recovery Media Creator, and Microsoft® Windows Live Essentials including Photo Gallery, Messenger, Mail and Writer.
The 6-cell Li-ion battery pack can provide up to 2.75 hours of unplugged power. Otherwise you’ll have to use the 75W auto-sensing 100-240 V AC adapter. The laptop measures 16.4” x 10.7” x 1.42”/1.57” and weighs 7.0 pounds. It comes with a limited 1-year parts and labor, 1-year battery warranty.
The Toshiba Satellite L555D-S7005 laptop can be found for around $630.
