Jumper Redux Anyway, I've changed my recommendation on Jumper to a mild yes. It's a fun action pic. Hayden still can't act and he needs a +5 Ring of Charisma, but Samuel L. Jackson balances things out. I think the movie could've been more kinds of awesome, if it delved a bit deeper into the moral aspects of what was going on. That could just be the intellectual side of me popping through though. I'm sure the intended audience isn't going to mind the heroes are killers and thieves. Ann Arbor, my town, does play a large role in the film. Here's an article about the city's part. I know it's a bit small-townish of me, but it's fun to hear your hometown mentioned several times in a movie. And no, the library in the movie isn't the one I visit frequently (nor even in Ann Arbor). Oh well. I'm glad the movie didn't get bogged down in any technical explanations about the "jumping." Trying to explain something that's impossible bores the stupid, and frustrates the scientific. There was one mention of a wormhole, but it's brief. Finally, let's see how I did on my predictions and recommendation. Spoilers ahead so you've been warned: Hayden rescues his girl, but loses his jumper friend. Samuel L. Jackson lives to fight another day.I was pretty much dead on for this one. Now to my recommendation: It's hard to imagine that Hayden Christensen can be tolerated for an entire movie. The pedigrees of the people involved look good (except for Hayden of course), but if this movie were so great they would've released it in the summer. I think this one will be another borderline movie. I'm going to suggest staying away from this one, and hope I’m pleasantly surprised. The movie wasn't great, but it was good. It was a borderline movie, and I was pleasantly surprised. I know it's not saying much, but this is the best movie I've seen for these reviews this year. Oh and finally finally, the trailer does a good job setting up the film, and as I suspected, they did use a clip from the climactic scene, but it didn't ruin it for me, so I can forgive them. Also, it looks like they used a few shots that weren't in the movie which is common for trailers, but for someone like me who sees the trailer a dozen times, it's a bit weird to not see those shots in the film. So much for not going long. I'm out. Stay geeky! Filed under Musings by Brian - Fri Feb 15, 2008 @ 2:29 PM (Permalink - Discuss) |
