The Adventures in Nosleepland and the Palm Pre We had a crazy busy weekend, which included very little sleep. That ruled out any new stories for yesterday, sorry. The good news is that I was able to obtain the elusive Palm Pre. I'm going to write up some lengthier thoughts on the device for tomorrow, but I thought I'd share the story of how I bagged one on opening day. I was all set on Friday night to get in line in the early morn for the Palm Pre. I was sufficiently exhausted to go to bed early, and wake up well rested. The best laid plans and all that. I didn't get to bed until around 11 PM (which I know is early for some of you, but not when you plan on getting up at 3 or 4 am). Mrs. BBspot, needing only a few hours of sleep (I'm suspecting more and more that's she's some kind of cybernetic being) said she would check the line when she woke up. She hopped out of bed at one and headed over to the Sprint store to check. I was soundly asleep and wouldn't have noticed her gone except my daughter comes in and says in a scared voice, "Dad, Mom just left!" I told her it was all right and to go back to bed (in a grumpy what the heck are you doing waking me up kind of voice (sorry)). Then I wake up 45 minutes later to see or rather not to see Mrs. BBspot. I assume she's in line for the phone, so I text her. No reply. I wait and text her again. No reply. I call. No answer. Finally, I get a hold of her a little after 2 AM. She ran some errands (yes stores are open 24 hours around here) then checked the line again, but left her phone in the car. She said there was no line. I made it back asleep at 3:30 AM. With no line at 2 AM, I wasn't too worried. Mrs. BBspot left to check again at 5:30 AM (I told you she was a cyborg). This time a line had started forming. She came back, gathered up some supplies and woke me up again to tell me she'd be waiting. I rerereawoke at 7 AM and got myself ready for my stint in the line. I know. Lame. When I got to the Sprint store at 7:30, Mrs. BBspot had secured the 7th spot in the line. The store was opening at 8 AM, so I only had a short time to wait. I'd advised picking up a cyborg wife to wait in line for you if you ever need to do this sort of thing yourself. The manager of the store came out and told us that they'd be letting in 10 people at a time. Another employee, led a feeble shout out of "Palm Pre," then opened the door to let us in. There were six employees selling phones, so we had to wait for one person to finish. It didn't take long. By 8:30 I was home with the Pre and my Touchstone inductive charger. I was very impressed with the quick service at Sprint, and my first impressions of the phone were great. Now I've got to write up the in-depth review of it, so... That's all I've got for now.
