BBspot Mailbag

Now you too can enjoy my Inbox without the annoying spam. Every week I get some amazing e-mail. Some amazing because of the sheer cluelessness of the sender, some because of the time and energy that went into crafting them and some are just simply amazing.

Believers

A reader explains to me how The Lord of the Rings was created before Babylon 5...

Subject: Alan DeHaan's Stupid Article

Please tell me that the stupidity of Alan DeHaan's article was a mistake. He claimed Lord of the Rings riped off Babylobn 5. Does this idiot realize that the Lord of the Rings movies were from the Lord of the Rings books which were written in the 1940's? Babylon 5, which came out in the 1990's, is a scifi reflection of those books. Please remove that article. It makes your site look stupid. A real writer researches his material beforehand.

Boy, do I feel dumb for posting an article without researching it first.

Presidential Showdown

We received some more email about our Presidential showdown...

Subject: in the interest of fairness.....

I just read your Letters-to-BBspot section where a reader notes that you're the number one hit for ""George W. Bush will reinstate the draft". Made me curious, so I checked, and BBspot is also the number one result on Google for "John Kerry will raise my taxes".

This raises an interesting issue, since the article in question uses the phrases in the context of Google search results. There's some sort of quantum observation loop effect going on here that would blow my mind, if I were taking a lot of pills.

Which I'm not, but I am a geek, so I do have to point out that you're only the number one hit when the phrases are searched for as phrases (in quotes).
The results you gave in your Showdown are from searches for the words individually, producing sometimes nonsensical results and throwing your whole methodology into question.

And some more Presidential anagrams...

A much more telling Bush anagram is:
Huge sob grew

Or for John F Kerry:
Horny f. jerk

That's all for this week!
