BBspot Mailbag

Now you too can enjoy my Inbox without the annoying spam. Every week I get some amazing e-mail. Some amazing because of the sheer cluelessness of the sender, some because of the time and energy that went into crafting them and some are just simply amazing.

May Be Inaccurate

For a brief moment the Paris Hilton Releases Tinkerbell Linux made it to the front page of Digg. This resulted in a big traffic boost for a few brief moments, unfortunately, a few Diggers had to spoil the fun for everyone (well at least for me) by marking it as possibly inaccurate information...

It's a good thing the Truth Police is on patrol over at Digg or we might end up with some BBelievers. That would be just terrible.

Despite what the Truth Police have to say, one BBspotter was able to download Tinkerbell Linux and he provided us with a review...

Subject: Tinkerbell Linux Review

I just finished downloading the ISOs and installing Tinkerbell Linux and thought I'd give you a quick review of it.

Installation wasn't too bad. Tinkerbell quickly recognized all of my devices, including some obscure ones like my SCSI scanner. I did have one problem with the floppy drive - Tinkerbell kept trying to make it a hard drive (hdc instead of fd0). Looks like I'll have to do some kernel hacking to fix that.

After installation I got down to configuring things. The desktop theme looked very pretty, pleasant but not the way I like my desktop to look. When I started messing around with the theme configs, though, I noticed that it was just a cheap knock-off of Monroe Linux.

Finally got a better theme installed and cranked up the browser - Slutfari. First thing I noticed was the bookmark list - already prefilled with links to Paris' homepages and celebrity sites. The media bar included a free download of "One Night in Paris" which wasn't too bad. I surfed a little and noticed some slowdown of the system; checked out the process list and noticed that I had already been infected with about 50 different viruses and worms. Should have used some protection, like a firewall or something.

One last item - check your network config. By default the network card is configured for promiscuous mode.

It's Spreading

One reader sent in a dead baby joke in response to our BBlooper. Apparently, the joke is spreading...

The joke is, simply put, awesome. And it is spreading....

I've told it to about 20 people so far and ALL of them have laughed or chuckled at the least.

Hell, even my parents laughed at the joke (this is a bit unnerving, don't you think?)

I am of course giving credit to BBspot and it's readers after the laughter has subsided... ;-)

We want more dead baby jokes!

I don't think I'll be telling my parents the joke.

Beauty and the Beast

Does sarcasm and intelligence breed beauty?

I'm living proof it does not.

Weekly Limerick

The winner of this year's Geek Limerick contest has volunteered to write a weekly limerick for BBspot. I haven't decided where to put it yet, so this week's I'll put in the Mailbag...

From: Seth

If Weird Al and The Tick were to fight
With their fists, then The Tick has more might.
 But were they to contest
As to who was the best,
Yankovictory would be in sight.

The Big One Redux

I knew BBspotters enjoyed reading my injury stories. I didn't realize they were placing wagers on it...

You know a bunch of us have a pool, right?

I hope nobody has too much money riding on this, or I might get some "help" in causing the "Big One."

Subject: Mailbag - 40 hour work week

I just read the Mailbag comment on your 40 hour work week...

You know, if you schedule the home improvement projects, you probably should schedule the visits to the hospital as well... :-)

Good idea!

That's all for this week!
