BBspot Mailbag

Now you too can enjoy my Inbox without the annoying spam. Every week I get some amazing e-mail. Some amazing because of the sheer cluelessness of the sender, some because of the time and energy that went into crafting them and some are just simply amazing.

Believers

This was another big week for Believers with the Counter-Strike movie story ringing them up. It helped that a few legitimate news sources reported it as true...

Geez, you'd think Slashdot wasn't THIS stupid...but then again it is Slashdot...

Which leads to where Slashdot got it from...

Subject: Slashdot fooled

Congrats, worthplaying thought your story was real:
http://www.worthplaying.com/article.php?sid=22818

And so a worthplaying guy thought it'd be a good idea to post it to slashdot. Seeing that not a single editor at slashdot actually checks histories (nor edits the article, but that's another bag of worms), they thought it was a good idea to post it:
http://games.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=05/01/29/054215

So ya fooled the dot. Difficult task seeing as a good majority of /.'ers also do the 'spot. Of course, most of the audience pointed this out, but I don't know if you'd seen it yet.

And now to the Game Spot article debunking it...

Subject: Counterstrike Movie on Gamespot

Your Counterstrike: The Movie article went so far as to be debunked on Gamespot in their weekly Rumor Control piece, which is the authority on video game rumor debunking at the moment. The only problem, as I can see it, is that BBspot is referred to as a British site. You might want to get in touch with them to correct that.

Cheerio, mate!

Here's another site reporting it as news and yet another.

And now onto the many discussion boards...

:O What teh fuxur?

Who would want to watch a movie about that?

i think he had his account disabled or something

Can't wait.. I knew it would come :D
Thanks Nic

Yes, the directors cut rated R would be very nice indeed. Thanks Soulburner

I say it will suck....

And now some "Microsoft AntiSpyware Removes Internet Explorer" Believers...

I found an extra believer for you, unfortunately it is danish:

Virus112 is a security company, that prides themselves of serving the best information to their customers.

Unfortunately, the link is now a 403.

And finally it's been a little while since our last Nigerian Billionaire Believer...

Elektra

Last week a reader claimed that Elektra has almost no sexual content...

"Elektra has almost no sexual content"?

This guy must be gay.

For my part, I find the mere existence of Jennifer Garner on this
planet increases its sexual content fourfold. To imagine her in a
red leather outfit is heaven, and I'd pay $19.95 anytime to actually _see_ her in one. ;)

Jared

One reader was upset by our recent story about Subway's Jared...

Subject: How can you keep torturing us?

I'm writing this letter to represent all the Jared's in the world who hate Subway's use of Jared Fogle. We, being lucky enough to have parents who used a relatively obscure name, were able to deal with the random references to our name in popular media, but we also did not have to deal with our name being everywhere. Then Subway comes along with this one person and all of a sudden every time I tell some joker my name, all I get are Subway comments.

I'm your standard, pale faced, tall and bone thin geek. And yet people still make these jokes. Back when I worked in tech support hell, every other joker on the phone had to make some stupid comment about that guy.
I HATE HIM!!! Arggg!

Anyway, the other Jareds and myself will have to boycott the writer Robin Berger on your site for the immediate future. This person is persona non grata in the circles of those named Jared.

That's all for this week!
