BBspot Trailer Awards

By Brian Briggs

This year marks the fourth year of the BBspot Trailer Awards. We've yet to reach the level of respect of the Oscars, but we're much shorter. Once again there was no shortage of choices for the Worst Trailer of the Year award, but the Best Trailer category will be a little thin...

Worst Trailer of the Year

I hope you realize that I have to go back and watch each of these nominees again to decide on a winner. When I'm not hurting myself physically, I'm doing it mentally. Everything I do, I do it for you.

The nominees are...

The Marine - "Cheap special effects, bad acting and events that defy the laws of physics make this one laughably bad. That's what you've come to expect from the WWE. Avoid it at all costs."

The Pink Panther - "I'm surprised this trailer didn't proclaim "From the Director of Animorphs and The Secret World of Alex Mack." Who wouldn't want to shout those credentials from the rooftops? I guess the director of Kimpossible wasn't available."

The Santa Clause 3 - "Money can make people do things they never dreamed they'd do. They'll kill. They'll sell their body. They'll make sequels. Money. How else can you explain the existence of Santa Clause 3."

Stay Alive - "This week's trailer for review is Stay Alive. You might think it's a remake of the Saturday Night Fever sequel. You might think it has a sound track by the Bee Gees. You might think it is good. You would be wrong."

As much as I'd like to give it to last year's winner, Deuce Bigalow European Gigolo, I'll have to give it to...

The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause

Overacting at it's most annoying.

Worst Trailer for the Past Two Years

Deuce Bigalow European Gigolo - "This could be the worst trailer ever released for the worst movie ever created. It's painful to watch. It was endorsed by the National Bulimia Society for its vomit-inducing "comedy.""

Deuce Bigalow European Gigolo

I had to give it something. It was that bad.

Best Trailer With a One Word Title

The nominees are...

Eragon - Without a "Best Trailer with a Dragon in it" category, this might be this trailer's only chance.

Crank - Speed except the bus is a guy.

Firewall - Another generic Harrison Ford thriller.

Pulse - This trailer could've been great, had it been completely different.

Ultraviolet - More like Ultraviolent, oh wait, that probably was the point.

And the Spottie goes to...

Eragon

The King of Mediocrity.

Best Trailer of the Year

The nominees are...

V for Vendetta - Hugo Weaving and Natalie Portman in a movie based on a comic book. What more could a geek want?

Superman Returns - The trailer got everyone's hopes up, but the movie didn't deliver.

X-Men - The Last Stand - The quality of the X-Men trailers continues.

The DaVinci Code - Much better than the novel and with Tom Hanks to boot.

And the Spottie for Best Trailer of the Year goes to...

X-Men - The Last Stand

Magneto does his dance of joy at winning the award.
