BBspot Trailer Awards

This year marks the seventh year of the BBspot Trailer Awards. Twenty-two trailers are vying for the awards this year. Plenty of geeky movies hit the theaters this year including X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Watchmen and Star Trek. I gave 10 trailers positive reviews and 12 negative reviews. An endurable split that didn't cause too much pain. Unsurprisingly, the worst trailers were stuck in the first few months of the year, as Hollywood dumps their dreck in those low attendance months. And now it's onto the awards...

For a full list of the trailers eligible for awards click here.

Worst Trailer of the Year

The nominees are...

The Twilight Saga: New Moon: Teen Wolf IV: An American Werewolf in America - Here's what I said: " Seriously, unless you have a penchant for pain, do not watch this trailer. "

Mutant Chronicles - Here's what I said: " This trailer looks very bad. Low-budget effects and bad acting don't make a great combination."

Dragonball Evolution - Here's what I said: "Generic action sequences, bad special effects and ridiculous hair make this one to miss. After watching this it makes me think that only a five-year-old will enjoy it."

Crank 2: High Voltage - Here's what I said: "Statham manages to out-stupid his previous releases with this one. I get that it's supposed to be over-the-top, but sometimes you can go too far. People who like shiny things might enjoy it, but if you like using your brain, you'll want to avoid it."

Two trailers this year made me physically ill, but the worst one was definitely...

New Moon
Untraceable

Facial expressions, actors are supposed to have more than one.

Jason Statham Award for Bad Acting

Jason Statham in Crank 2: High Voltage - After last year's deluge of Statham films, I was lucky to only have to endure one Statham trailer this year. Unfortunately, it was one of the worst trailers of the year. Fortunately, it makes choosing the winner (loser?) of this award easy.

And the Spottie goes to...

Jason Statham in Crank 2: High Voltage
Bad Actor

Best Trailer with Mutants, Werewolves or Vampires

You'd think such a category would narrow my choices, but then you forget what site you're on.

Mutant Chronicles - This is a trailer, and it has mutants, but none of the other words in the category describe it at all.

Underworld: Rise of the Lycans - Surprisingly, this is not the only trailer with vampires and werewolves, but it is the best.

The Twilight Saga: New Moon - I will never say anything good about this series ever.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine - The trailer was better than the movie, and better than any other mutant, werewolf or vampire movie this year.

And the Spottie goes to...

X-Men Origins: Wolverine
Twilight

Best Trailer of the Year

The nominees are...

Watchmen - As dark and twisted as the movie itself. The Watchmen trailer got us all geeked for the graphic novel adaptation.

Star Trek - Lots of action and great special effects make this one a winner. It showed a lot of the movie without giving much of the plot away. The introduction of the new actors was handled well.

Terminator Salvation - The trailer got me geeked for a reboot of the Terminator franchise. Unfortunately, the movie itself made me fear another sequel.

Avatar - An epic trailer for an epic movie. I think it gives far too much of the plot away, but the movie still delivered.

Four excellent candidates this year for Trailer of the Year and the Spottie goes to ...

Star Trek

Star Trek

Feel free to complain about my choices in the comments below.
